Process Engineer

 

Basic Functions:

  • Facilitate the continuous improvement efforts of the production process to optimize raw material yields, cost performance, and product performance/consistency.
  • Design the production process as new products and existing product variants are proposed as required by end-use customers.

All duties and responsibilities require employee to meet safety, production, quality goals and environmental stewardship as laid out in documentation. Any documentation that is incomplete requires work to be ceased and supervisors to be consulted before proceeding.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assess processes, take measurement and interpret data for day-to-day operations for process improvement and troubleshooting
  2. Design, run, test and upgrade products and process systems in conjunction with Marketing, Technical Service and other groups
  3. Develop and implement best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of product
  4. Perform process simulations and risk assessments
  5. Manage time and cost constraints and prepare budgets
  6. Provide process documentation, P&ID change documentation and operating instructions
  7. Strong communication skills (verbal, written, computer) with both operators and management

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience Required: 5 or more years of relevant technical experience in the manufacturing environment, with a strong track record of success

Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position:

  • Finger Dexterity – Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements and adjustments.
  • Talking – Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Average Hearing – Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Repetitive Motions – Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Average Visual Abilities: – Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect computers or workstations.
  • Physical Strength – Occasional sedentary work; exerts up to 25 – 30 Ibs. of force.

Working ConditionsMedium – Occasional walking around throughout the plant site, exposure to operating equipment requires conformance to site safety requirements for the proper protective equipment.

Mental Activities and Requirements of this position

  • Reasoning Ability – Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment
  • Mathematics Ability – Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percents and ability to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Language Ability – Excellent written and language skills, ability to read and prepare documents, tracks and monitors the problem to ensure a timely resolution.
