Principal Engineer

The Principal Engineer works on complex projects necessitating the origination and application of new and unique approaches; mentors less experienced engineers; conducts and directs research and development in manufacturing/process design and product development as a plant-wide technical resource. As part of the Acquiring Talent Program (ATP), this accelerated leadership development role will start at our aerospace fastener plant in and will include a rotation assignment at our New Product Development Center to learn NPD processes. The Principal Engineer will fully integrate into engineering processes at the plant, especially around our new products.

Company Fastening Systems (AFS) holds the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found the nose to tail on aircraft and aero engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

The ideal candidate will be a high potential engineer, with engineering experience with high volume, precision metal components in the aerospace industry (must have experience within metalworking manufacturing). Should have at least 8 years of experience. High potential engineer – potential to be an Engineering Manager in a few years.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of creative and innovative solutions to technical problems by using state-of-the-art technical development in systems, process or product design.
  • Provides on-call consultation as needed within or outside the company, participating in technical audits and technical decision making.
  • Briefs management on the latest state-of-the-art developments.
  • Mentors and develops technical skills of less experienced engineers.
  • Supplies technical inspiration, leadership and consultation to professional co-workers.
  • Improves the technical base and the communication within assigned facilities.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities and contributes to improvement of processes and products.
  • Documents new ideas and current technical information in design guides and memos.
  • Represents the organization in outside discussions and technical forums.
  • Participates in technical societies.
  • Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes.
  • Develops applications of findings to new uses.
  • technical reports for use by engineering or management personnel for long- and short-range planning, or for use by sales engineering personnel in sales or technical services activities.
  • Candidates must be willing to accept a domestic relocation rotation assignment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 8 years of Engineering experience in manufacturing
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer advanced Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Prefer that the Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering, from an accredited institution
  • Engineering experience with high volume, precision metal components
  • Engineering experience in the aerospace or other regulated industry
  • Project management experience
  • Prefer that the Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering, from an accredited institution
  • Engineering experience with high volume, precision metal components – this is most important
  • Engineering experience in the aerospace industry
