Chief Engineer, Lean

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Chief Engineer, Lean will be responsible for transforming the new product development efforts of this rapidly growing company by applying Lean product development techniques as pioneered by Toyota.

The Chief Engineer will have a staff of approximately 6 Engineers. He/she will utilize Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, QFD methodology, and other Lean techniques as well as conduct feasibility studies of the process and/or design to assure process integrity as intended. A strong focus in new product development experience is required including formal tollgate review techniques focusing on progress relative to schedule, cost, and functionality targets. Finally, the Chief Engineer would be expected to not only incorporate Lean concepts into the product development process but also to ensure design rigor and trade-off analysis are integral to the process.

This position requires an individual with strong leadership skills, and proven ability of maximizing the talent and efficiencies of cross-functional product development groups. This individual will lead the transformation from a traditional product development process to a truly world class process.

The successful candidate will have had extensive interaction cross-functionally and with customers, and must have experience in using a formal gatepost review process. He/she will also be required to be an outstanding mentor, coach and Toyota Production System leader.

Qualifications


  • Master's in Engineering (M.E./E.E./Ch.E.)
  • 10 + years professional engineering experience and proven track record in new product development
  • Ability to perform, teach and lead team members within the principles of Lean, as applicable to product development
  • Extensive Project Management experience
  • Proven ability to drive change globally across multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to influence in heavily matrixed environment
  • Outstanding executive communication skills and executive presence
  • Experience in leading large global teams

  • Six Sigma certification - Black Belt or Master Black Belt
